I don’t know what has happened lately. When I started my blog, I was enthusiastic and did my best to create quality content for my readers. Lately, my blogging has slowed down and I’m sincerely having an issue with consistent weekly posting. I know that sounds ridiculous because there are hundreds of thousands of marketing ideas on the internet. There are no excuses.
Many articles about blogging refer to content creation. What should what I write about? Is there a resource I can use to get ideas? One of my goals this year is to increase my frequency and consistency with my blog. So far, it isn’t happening.
I’ve been syndicating many blogs and the last three blog posts I’ve read from my friend Adrienne Smith, refer to “Finding Your Own Voice.” The problem is I’m not doing it.
The first post was about standing out from the crowd regarding blogging called How To Stand Out From The Rest. It was a “Finding Your Own Voice” message. I want to share my comment to this post and you will get the gist of it:
I have proof that what you are saying and doing about blogging is true. When I relax and just be myself without worrying about technicalities, my audience comment numbers and quality increase a lot! It seems so simple, but I want to share what has been hanging me up. You stated, “Adrienne, just be yourself and the people who can relate to what you share will and those that won’t, won’t. It’s really that simple.” I totally agree. I feel I am an authentic and honest person. I don’t have a problem being me and sharing. However, my issue is not allowing the flow to happen sometimes because of grammar or “being professional.” My background is a professional teacher and I can’t seem to shake it! I’m getting better, but you don’t know how hard it is to say, “Hey, just wanted to see how you are doing!” That might be the thought in my head, but what comes out is, “How you are doing?” It doesn’t come across the same…does it? I’m working on it. It’s funny how I can be more casual on Facebook and Skype. I know! I’ll pretend I’m writing on Skype! It’s difficult for me to add OMG’s and LOL’s, in a post even though I want too!
Great post to think about. I know that we have to be unique and stand above the crowd. It’s a jungle out there! (see I just added that..normally I wouldn’t…LOL) Connecting and sharing is the way to go for long term stability (I had to say that too!). By the way, I love the sheep picture! Thanks!
Then, the next time around, Adrienne happened to have her friend, Carol Lynn Rivera write a post called How To Beat The Blogging Cliché Blues . One of the clichés is about “Finding Your Own Voice.”
Carol asks “What does that mean?” Her advice is to do these three things instead:
1. Be you.
2. Write like you talk.
3. Forget what your English teacher taught you.
What if I took Carol’s advice and gave it a shot? The truth is there is a plethora of articles about internet marketing, training, tutorials, and mindset online. I could pick any one of those and write an article for you. But guess what? I’m bored with writing about the same thing everyone else is writing about and I would guess you might be too! So if I just relax and be myself, I know I will enjoy sharing more with you.
Finally, the third post was called 7 Tips For A Better Blog , and you guessed it, “Finding Your Own Voice” was included as one of the 7 tips. I took this as a sign. Was someone trying to tell me something? So after having the concept shoved in my face three times, a light bulb went off.
My strategy is to be myself, write like I talk, and forget what my English teacher taught me. If you read my comment to Adrienne above, then you will understand my struggle with grammar. You might be having the same issue with blogging. I will write a sentence, then make sure it is grammatically correct, and ruin the intent. It also takes too much time and damages flow. No more. All of it goes out the door! This isn’t going to be easy, and if you notice that the grammar isn’t perfect…please excuse me.
I don’t want blogging to be a struggle. I want to commit to my plan and see what happens. I think I’m spoiled because I want to write when I’m inspired and I’ll tell you right now, I want to be inspired at least once a week to come up with a post that you will enjoy and can relate to.
I started this post with, I don’t know what has happened lately. After reading the three blog posts, I do know. I’ve reached a point that I have to change my approach. If you are having the same issue, I would recommend reading these posts. I guarantee you….it will help! I have so many wonderful things happening in my life and business, I’d love to share those with you. So my next post, I am going to tell you about a game I’m playing online with my internet friends which has to do with prosperity and abundance. I hope you will come along for the ride.
