How To Become A Millionaire From Scratch

How to become a millionaire from scratch, starting out with nothing.

I attended Add The Nitrous, Matt Lloyd’s live event held in San Diego September 27-30, 2012. There were 12 speakers, all of which were invited to  make a presentation as long as they were officially “millionaires.” The question they were asked to present was on the premise of that they had no contacts and no money. What would they do or what would they do different to reach millionaire status?

All of the speakers were wonderful, informative, entertaining and provided loads of value. There was one speaker in my opinion who gave a stunning presentation. He didn’t offer anything to sell. It doesn’t matter if you have a dream to become a millionaire or not. His speech was more about mindset. He was the last speaker of the event and had the shortest speech length than any of the others, but it was a doozy! I have attended many of his webinars, purchased his products, and have great admiration for him as a person and a mentor. I’m sure most people know who he is if you are in the internet marketing business. His name is Mark Hoverson.

Mark gave one of the most powerful speeches I had ever heard. I want to share one section of his speech with my readers. Remember this is only one short part, but it is very thought provoking.  The premise of his speech was how to become a millionaire from scratch and starting out with nothing.

If I was starting with nothing
I would  number one, this is what I actually did, I told my wife,
“Honey, I’m going to be good for one walk around the block a day.
And don’t give me any BS.
Don’t give me any guilt.
Don’t ask me to do anything.
Don’t ask me to do any yard work.
Don’t ask me to day anything at all.
I am going to this basement and
I’m walking with the family around the block
one time per day until we are free.
And not rich.
See the difference?

Rich is a fools game.
Free is something worth everything.
It’s worth everything.
-to be with with whoever you want to be with.
Do whatever you want to do.
With whoever..
You know the drill here.

The first thing I would do…
Anybody garden out there? or plant? or have bonsai trees?
You have this plant and it has all this growth and everything.

But if you want a beautiful, strong, vibrant fruitful plant, what do you do with this plant?
You prune it.
You prune everything so all the vital resources can go only to the desired object,
which is, in this case becoming a millionaire, according to my assumption. Right?

So what I would do is I would cut off cable completely.
If I watched foothball, I would watch the 4th quarter.
If I had friends, they would see less of me until I was free.
And then I would have friends all over the world on command,
coolest friends that can do anything they want whenever they want.
We can do anything we want.
We can go anywhere we want.
So I would say friends?
As much as before?
Not until I’m free.

I would cut off all spending.
I would tell my wife, (the fortunate thing is we didn’t have a lot of money to freeze, I called it a freeze).
and throughout three years I would tell her “We’re on a freeze.”
You know what a freeze is?
It means nothing.
It mean no kid’s haircuts.
It means no pedicures.
It means no nothing.
It means nothing but business.
Every penny is in my business.

Am I speaking the truth?
Do you guys feel it?

I would do nothing except put money into my business.

I go to church.
You have to give your 10% to God.
I was in the hole.
I was doomed.
You pay your taxes with your tithe to God on increase only.
Increase only.
So now I’m able to whip out $20,000 donation to a bible camp
-but I didn’t tithe for three years
because I didn’t have the numbers.
See what I’m saying?

Number one,
Socially, all my friends they watched Survivor.
They watched football.
I’d say, “I’ll be there about the 4th quarter”
because I’m working.
If I’m not working, I’m reading.

There is a verse from King Solomon wrote that generally says:
The hand of the industrious will rule.
The hand of the diligent, the industrious, the busy, the hustler will rule, will lead.
They will lead cultures.
They will lead politics.
They will lead religion,
They will lead education.
They will lead entrepreneurship.
They will lead the internet.

The hand of the industrious will rule.
They will lead everything.
They are the culture bearers.
They literally put culture on their back.
We dictate the technologies that we release to the masses, the education, the platforms.
We rule my friends.
The hand of the industrious rules.
But the hand of the negligent man, the slothful (there are many variations of this verse)
That hand, do they get a free ride?
The hand of the negligent will be put to Forced Labor
…meaning nine to five, two weeks of vacation if you’re lucky.
Forced labor.
Inescapable exertion.

You will be exerting yourself at the maximum psychic energy you have.
You have the capacity for mental thought, feeling, emotion, and life.
And it is driving at full force at all times.
Here’s what it’s going to be doing.
It can go towards industry, hustle, work, giving it everything you got.
It’s all you got, but it’s all going toward industry.
Or if you are not going to be a ruler you are going to be put to Forced Labor
Forced labor is all you mental energy.
All your emotions.

All your psychologys are going to be forced on

How am I going to pay the bills this week?
How am I going to make my Grandmas funeral because I can’t quite afford it?
How am I going tell so and so “No we cant do it?”
How am I not going to get this for my my kids, my wife?

You will exert all your energies dealing with this BS
-instead of dealing with ruling.
There is no escaping it though.
It is going to be operative 100% in both directions.
You get to choose industry?
Or chaos?
Forced Labor.
This is a lifestyle not of freedom.
That’s why when I say you get to choose,
I don’t say rich.
I say free
or forced.

Isn’t this unbelievable to think about?

How would I start over and become a millionaire?
Every bit of energy would go toward industry.
I would become completely obsessed with value creation.
Not necessarily collecting the dollar but creating a financial
transaction where the money was lighter than the value that I offer.

This is such a simple game. Sigh

At the end of this segment, his sigh was a very long.  There is an incredible concept about what Mark Hoverson talked about during this speech. This was only the beginning! From that point, he lays out the exact foundation of what he did to become a millionaire starting out with product creation. This is only one small section, but it impacted me greatly. Leave a comment if you found this piece to be of value and remember what he said, Isn’t this unbelievable to think about?

  1. Hey Reana,

First, I have to let you know that I’m a big Mark Hoverson fan! As I was reading through this post what inspired me the most is my own growth. Remembering those times long ago when I spent my thoughts and actions on those “small” things in life. Things like paying bills on time, stressing about having “enough”

But I realized that I’ve come a long way with my own mindset. Business is always on my mind. I see things in terms of freedom and not amounts of dollars. I make the time to do the things I love to do and give to those in need without thinking of money. It always comes.

My mindset has broadened too. I want to increase my finances to do the things I love in a much larger scale.

Thanks for sharing this. You must have had a total growth spurt and this conference!

  2. Adrienne

    Hey Raena,

I’m a big Mark fan too Raena and have the pleasure of meeting him. He gave me tickets to a Jeffrey Combs event a few years back and invited me to his after party. I also had the pleasure of meeting David Woods just as he was moving up the proverbial ladder. We all had a really great time.

Mark is very humble and his own story is so compelling. It’s kind of funny actually that when you hear a lot of these millionaires speak, they had really gone through some hard time. I remember hearing one guy at that same event who was fixing to lose their home and had maxed out every credit card they had. Oh and they had a baby on the way, really horrible times.

I think those people are the ones who appreciate where they came from the most. I know when people tell me to cut back they don’t realize I’m already there. I’m not someone who splurges on things, I just never have been that person. Not that I haven’t been able to afford things in my life but they just aren’t important.

Mark is right and I’ve heard him say this over the years. People want freedom, not necessarily to be rich but the freedom to come and go as they please. To never worry about finances again so to some people that’s not even at that millionaire level. It’s the freedom we’re all striving for.

I appreciate you sharing this with us, thanks so much and I bet that was an awesome conference.

      Hi Adrienne,

You’ve had your share of live events! They are usually worth the time and expense to attend. I’ve been to a bunch and I too have had the pleasure of meeting Mark several times. He didn’t give me any tickets or invite me to an after party…how fortunate! It sounds like a blast.

I’ve met many 6-8 figure earners and every one of them have had to struggle. Mark’s words describe one version of what all of them had to go through in some form. It takes dedication, focus, and sacrifice to reach that status. I agree with you about people wanting freedom. So many marketers say “I want to be a millionaire” because they think that is what will make them happy. I’m with Mark. I want time and money freedom.

Add The Nitrous was an AWESOME conference. I loved the networking, the speakers, and the energy. I think you would appreciate what Matt Lloyd put together for this event because you provide tons of value to everyone you meet. There were many offers presented, which serves a purpose at these conferences. I believe everyone who attended left with ideas and strategies they could implement in their businesses. What I thought was interesting is that Mark was the only one who got on stage and presented pure value. I certainly don’t want to take anything away from the other speakers because they had offers…they are marketers and sharing their offers is expected. All of them did their best and over delivered. Mark simply took a different approach. Seeing and hearing him on stage compared to reading his words in a post isn’t the same, but I felt the section of his speech I shared was very powerful (the whole thing was excellent!) and I wanted other people to hear his message. I admire Mark’s style and humility. He was so great!

There is a lot of hype about becoming a millionaire, and most people, as you pointed out want to be free. However, I don’t think anyone would turn down the status if it was handed to them.

      Thanks for swinging by!

  3. Hello Reana,

Here in France I had not heard of Mark Hoverson before but it would appear he is well know in the USA given the 2 comments above mine as certainly au fait and concur with your good recommendations. This is of course how excellence travels the world now we hear about it hear and there from people we have come to and trust. Thanks for taking time to share 🙂

  4. OMG I could feel my pulse ramping up just reading that excerpt Raena! He caught me right from the beginning with the difference between Free and Rich! I never say I want to be rich – I want to be F-R-E-E! I was also encouraged by the fact that I’m actually already following several of the steps he outlined. Wow, thanks for the adrenaline rush – perfect timing considering what I’ve got on my task list for the remainder of this month. 🙂

  5. Michael A. Buccilli

I haven’t heard of Mark Hoverson before reading your post Raena, but, you are not kidding when you state how thought provoking his words are. I have been at that point: Not spending money, Not spending hours in front of the TV – Not to become rich but as Mark states, for freedom.

I have been told many times growing up that I was too materialistic, but, I say no – I want to make my empire so that I have the ability to be with the people that I want and fully experience the beauty and splendor that God has given us on this awesome planet that we call earth! I have never wanted money or fame just for the sake of it.

Your post has given me pause and reaffirmation – thank you ever so much Raena.

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hello Michael,

It’s nice to see you. It thrills me to know that you have been officially introduced to Mark Hoverson by this post. He is a true inspiration and the man knows what he is talking about. He has an incredible story about his struggling years and he did what he tells others they must do to be free. Mark is the person who inspired me to create my first product and he is a giant in this industry. He is also a great fan of Jim Rohn, and sometimes I see Mark as a younger version of him. He is very wise and down to earth and his transparency is bar none!

People who judge others and say things by pointing a finger and saying “You are too materialistic” do not understand freedom. Stick with it Michael. Never give up and you will have your own empire!

Being free is not easy if you do not have an open mind and heart. I may not be earning a million, but I’ve heard a lot of motivational speakers with multi-million dollar businesses and their tale is not any different from the people you have mentioned.

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hi Nile,

I agree. There is a price to pay for freedom, but it is worth it! I loved when Mark said, I’m walking with the family around the block
one time per day until we are free. And not rich. Free.

    Hi Raena,

Thank you for sharing Mark’s success story and insights.

How To Become A Millionaire From Scratch? In this date and age, success examples are everywhere. The ‘vehicle’ can be an electronic product. It can be through the Network Marketing business model. It can be Affiliate Marketing. I am sure there are many ways!

Becoming a millionaire is no longer the privilege of those who were born into wealthy families 🙂

    Viola Tam

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hello Viola,

After listening to Mark Hoverson’s presentation, it is apparent that if you set your mind to it and do what he did, becoming a millionaire or being free is possible if that is your goal. I loved the fact that he talked about being free, rather than becoming a millionaire. Being free is different for different people. Freedom for one may mean becoming a millionaire. Freedom for another could simply mean having time and money freedom, and that can be done without reaching millionaire status. Thanks for your comment! I appreciate it!

      Raena Lynn

  8. Wow, that was great Raena,

Thanks for sharing this from your live event ( I had heard some of it at our Google hangout). There is a successful online woman that I know whose slogan goes like this: “If you are willing to do for a year what others won’t you can spend a lifetime doing what others can’t”. what Mark Hoverson said made me think of this.

When we really know what we want we will make all the sacrifice necessary and stop finding excuses. I used to help a lot of new marketers in the past full of excuses, and they were just tiring me out. If you’ve got too many excuses, you will never make it to financial freedom. Period.

I really enjoyed reading this, Raena, thanks for sharing it with us 🙂

      Hi Sylviane,

Thanks for visiting. It sounds like you enjoyed this article as much as I enjoyed writing it. I was fortunate to meet him and get a copy of Mark’s entire video during the event. This video is the golden nugget I got from the event and I watch it for inspiration. There are no excuses. So many people want success fast and don’t realize the challenges they will face as they attempt to succeed. It takes sacrifice, determination, and passion to make it. Just imagine what he talks about for the rest of the video! Thanks so much for your inspiration. I love your blog!

    Hi Raena

I like some of the others am a huge Mark fan. I have never met or seen him live as yet but I have have done a few of his courses now. The first one I did was with he and Jonathan Budd and I am very familiar with Mark’s story.

I love how you have written this – wow thanks for sharing it! Funny as I love listening to Mark so much I could hear his voice as I was reading.

One thing I really respect about Mark too is that fact he has been with the one MLM and been very focused. I think there is a lesson in that.

Thanks again for sharing this Raena.

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hi Sue,

It’s lovely to see you here. I cannot express how much respect I have for Mark Hoverson. I have met so many incredible marketers, but Mark shine! Since you have purchased some of his products, then you are aware of the value he offers. He provides incredible content, but as a person he is down to earth and has a sincere understanding of the journey most internet marketers have to go through. Focus and mindset….Mark’s expertise in addition to being a master marketer! See you next week!

  10. This was a great share and shows how many people can realize their desire to want to change their lifestyle to one that allows them only to do what they love and when.

The people listed are a small number of the motivational speakers out here. They make a living traveling around and performing in key location throughout the U.S and other countries. They are to inspire and encourage those who will purchase a ticket. They are just sharing their stories over and over again so everyone can realize you can do this to.

Wonderful share and I pray that everyone understands that the more you give yourself to others in service. The more your life will start to change. You are unique and have your story to share. Just learn how to make it generate revenue like the few of us who have been blessed to achieve. It is within everyone once you learn the natural way to accomplish.

I love this share and look forward to many more in the future. You have a wonderful way of making us feel all your emotions with this adventure you just took part in. Thank you!

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hi William,

Mark Hoverson is a prime example of a man who is committed to sharing and helping others. He has reached a point in his life that he is able to give back ten fold. He shared his struggle, but more importantly he shared what a person must do to if they truly want and believe they can reach the level of “millionaire.” Mark has had a tremendous impact on my life and he is a gifted speaker and an inspirational person! Thanks for your visit.

I have been a fan of Mark Hoverson ever since Info-Product Blueprint launched. And when I bought it I received access to his Soloman CEO course as well. Its great how Mark teaches that even though we say that we want money. What we really want is the freedom to do the things that money allows us to do. Thanks for the reminder Raena.

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hi Clint,

I knew of Mark before the Info-Product Blueprint, but I too became a fan once I bought and implemented his Blueprint product. I created my first info-product because of his training. I launched my first caffeine product and it was very exciting! I am aware of his Soloman CEO course as well. It is one of the best around. Mark continues to bring value to so many people, over and over again. Of course his Futuristic Marketing product with Jonathan Budd was a keeper too. Mark has been through the struggle and knows what it takes to be free. He has a gift of being able to share it with others so they can relate and take their own steps to being free. Thanks Clint. I appreciate your comments.

Mindset is everything. If you are always doubting your self you will never succeed, whether it’s trying build a successful business or trying to get through rehab after a debilitating accident.

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hi Melanie,

Nice to see you here:) Those are three very powerful words, “Mindset is everything.” We can only succeed when we’ve taken care of our internal beliefs. Personally, my mindset really held me back at one time. I completed several personal development programs, read books, and attended seminars to get my mind prepared for what I wanted to create in my life. Once I recognized that I was my own worst enemy, and eliminated that garbage, I’ve been able to move forward and I’m finally experiencing the success I expect. I enjoy your blog and we will get to know each other better during the upcoming year because we are in the same circles. I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas!

  13. Hi Raena,

I love how Mark differentiates between being rich and being free. A lot of rich people are anything but free. This also reminds me a bit of Eric Worre, when he says that to be successful in network marketing you have to “work your face off.”

A very inspiring post. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hi Gregory,

Thanks for visiting my blog. Freedom is what it is all about. I think many people think if they become wealthy, they are guaranteed freedom. To reach both money and time freedom is truly rich. It takes a lot of planning and strategy to reach both.

    Hi Raena
Great post.It sounds like Mark Hoverson really made an impact on you.Great speech.I wish I had been there to attend.I think it’s time to change my mindset and become free. This is definitely a different way of seeing things and I think that looking at it as “I want to be free rather than rich” could help to put things in a different perspective and help people to move forward in their business but also their lives.

    Thank you for sharing this,

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hi Jamie,

Happy New Year! This is the time to set goals and maybe the comment you made is the way to go! Mark knows what he is talking about since he’s “been there and done that.” I really like the mindset of “I want to be free rather than rich” definitely puts a different light on how we pursue our goals. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Be sure to get your goals written down and posted so you can read them every day!

Thanks for sharing some of Mark’s talk, Raena.

It’s one of the great things about live events, getting to see and hear real people give their stories and their inspiration.

Mark is a true gem in internet marketing, but even more, in life. I think his dedication and commitment is clear and anybody who’s ever worked with him can’t help but absorb some of that.

Glad you got to be there!

    1. Raena Lynn

      Hi David,

Thank you for your comment. I can’t agree more. Mark Hoverson is a real gem in Internet Marketing. He is among my favorites not only as a great teacher, but as you said, an incredible person. I feel fortunate to know so many master marketing models. Live events are the best way to help us connect with the real people behind their avatars first hand!

I wish you and Donna a fantastic 2013!
